While many people, ranging from the general public and some well-known names, seem to dismiss theme parks as just stuff for kids, movies and theme parks are more similar than what many others realize. Both immerse the viewer in different worlds, have a variety of stories, and will live in your memories for generations to come. I even see a lot of movies (that aren't just the Marvel Cinematic Universe) as theme park rides, ranging from 2001: A Space Odyssey is a cinematic dark ride to certain action films implementing elements of a roller coaster. For instance, how I build suspense in my films is heavily influenced by the thrill of a roller coaster. While many see such amusement novelties as a novelty exclusively for kids, I see it as something more. Whether it is Disney, Universal, or others worldwide, these life-sized sandboxes have always influenced my stories throughout my entire filmmaking since they can thrill and inspire me.
"A theme park is just a storytelling device. And like any storytelling device, it's all about the experience and the emotion."
Joe Rohde (Imagineer and designer of Disney's Animal Kingdom):
